TECH-SPEC’S DASHD | Requirements to run a Diamond Node

posted in: General, Technical | 0

The hardware requirements for a DASHD node mainly depend on the network situation of the Dash Diamond network. The requirements for a wallet node are different than those for a masternode or stakingnode.

For an active node, like staking or masternode,  the technical requirements depend on the total number of nodes in the network and the amount of transactions or data traffic to process. Both are NOT constant and will vary over time or burst temporary. The wallet configuration and node setup also has influence on the hardware resources consumed.

Taking the current network situation of 8000 masternodes (55% locked) into account the hardware requirements for running a masternode are approximately:

      • 2 Cores

      • 2 GB RAM

      • 10GB of data storage

      • 5 MBit/s reserved network bandwidth

A node with 100 connected peers currently generates around 30GB of outbound and inbound data per day. This results in roughly 1TB of total traffic per month. The number of peers have a large impact on CPU usage. We recommend to limit the number of  peers to a value between 64 and 128 in the configuration file. This ensures a good share in the network participation but also keeps the node responsive.

At the time of writing this article the size of DASHD blockchain is around 2.5GB. More transactions do mean larger blocksize and thus more data to store and to process. With the current network situation and an increased demand of DASHD in the future the block chain will grow with around 1.5GB per year.

The wallet and node software of Dash Diamond is available for Windows, Linux and MAC. In addition ARCH64 platforms are supported by DASHD. This makes it possible to run your node not only from a Server, VPS or PC but also on a single board computer like Raspberry or ASUS Tinker board. Please take care that 24/7 operation of these devices needs special attention.

As Dash Diamond is a MASTERNODE and not a POW coin, the CPU clockspeed doesn’t have an influence on reward or staking performance. It is only important that the CPU can handle all the network and computational tasks required by the network.
