THE GENESIS BLOCK 29.08.2019 | A Diamond’s Birthday

posted in: General, History, Technical | 0

The genesis block is the first generated block of a blockchain. Dash Diamond’s genesis block was minted on the 29th August 2019. The creator of Dash Diamond, who used to be “James W.”, minted the genesis block at 03:43:45 UTC. Part of the genesis block was a premine of 180k DASHD coins, which was at that time a 1% share from the total maximum supply. Some of the DASHD from the premine are still untouched and weren’t moved or used over the past 3 Years. Dash Diamond had initially a block time of 150 seconds. At block number #17 the first masternode was created. On the same day James W. posted a screenshot of his wallet in DASHD Discord channel showing the successful start of the blockchain.

Every Dash Diamond wallet still has the genesis block inside its block database. From Block #0 onwards, the merkelhashes are computed block after block. The whole block chain is a tree shaped structure starting with the genesis block at the root, with each block potentially having multiple candidates to be the next block. The current merkelhash has dependances on the genesis block. It is common that developers leave a text message inside the genesis block. Here you can see the raw block data of the DASHD genesis block.

As you can see from the above HEX-translated block data, James W. also hardcoded a genesis message inside the first Dash Diamond block. “It’s hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world”. Below you can see the famous genesis block message of Bitcoin and Satoshi Nakamoto “The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks”.

To see and check blockdata by yourself you can use a hex viewer. Simply import the first blockfile from your wallet and inspect it within the hex viewer. Another method to view blockchain data is using your wallet and the ‘getblock’ cli command (usage: getblock #BLOCKHASH false). This will output the HEX-data of the corresponding block.

The logo of Dash Diamond from 2019 was initially a diamond shape with an orange DASH sign in it. Early 2021, when the Decenomy developers continued the work on Dash Diamond, the logo had been changed. The new design is a futuristic and simplified design of a diamond in light blue coloring. The Dash sign is placed in the center of the diamond shape. The textual logo is placed at the bottom of the graphical composition.

At the time of writing this article Dash Diamond has a 3 years history with over 1 million blocks. It currently counts about 8000 Masternodes, which gives it a top 3 rank in the statistics of masternode online. DASHD has a sparkling future ahead and as already the creator mentioned “It’s hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world”. We are looking forward to the next birthday of Dash Diamond.
